On October 21, 1829, Thomas Edison invented the light-bulb. One hundred and eighty-one years ago. One hundred years before my parents were born. Can you imagine the world without light bulbs? Going to bed when the sun "went down" and getting up in the moring when it "gets up"? Not being able to read, watch TV, sew, stamp, anything inside without expensive candles? That one little invention literally changed the world as we know it.
Now imagine what it must have been like for Thomas Edison. He had an idea, a plan, but no way of proving he was right without taking the chance that he might be wrong! Do you think his family and friends and neighbors believed in him and supported his efforts, even if he failed? Do you think maybe Mr. Edison was a little afraid of the consequences if he was wrong! He'd be the laughingstock of at least his township! I'm sure there were plenty of naysayers around. Do you think it was luck or the results of hard, dedicated work that proved him right?
Where do you think we'd be today if Mr. Edison had given in to the naysayers? What if he had NOT believed in himself enough to give his ideas a chance?
What about you? What is it you believe in strongly enough to pursue regardless of what the naysayers in your life say? It's a thought worth thinking while you're contemplating life this week. Or while you're carving out some time for yourself to get some stamping done! Leave a comment and share what motivates you.
Happy Stamping!
