Yesterday was Women's Equality Day. The 19th amendment, granting women equality, was ratified on August 26, 1920 - 90 years ago. My question for you is this: Are women today equal? I recently read an article in a business forum that asked the question, "Should you be treated differently because you're a woman?" The man writing the article had recently been told BY a woman, that she (and her business practices) should be treated differently because she was a woman.
The article emphatically said, in effect, "No, good business practices are good business practices regardless of male or female or even what business you're in." The writer of this article has taught me much over the last few years and I agree with his teachings. He has updated, sound advice that I first learned in Marketing/Business classes in college years ago! Updated to include technology that didn't exist back then! I respect him very much. Yet, this question, and his answer, has intrigued me. On the one hand, I agree, good business practices are not based on anything else. On the other hand, I have to ask myself how much I've practiced those good business techniques regularly and how much I "excuse" myself because I'm a woman and also have to do "other" things - take care of family, house, whatever seems to come up. Life is a balancing act, but should women be treated differently? What do you think? I'd really love to know. Leave a comment below!
Meanwhile, Happy Stamping! - the next post won't be so "serious" - I promise! It also won't be so far in the future - I promise!
